“Printer settings could not be saved” when updating printer driver

By | April 12, 2016

I had a network printer to replace with a new model of a different brand.  This should be easy with just downloading the driver, add it and done.

Not so much. I get this dreaded error!

Printer Settings could not be saved

The “easy” fix has been to delete the printer and then re-create it with the new driver. I’m not sure this ACTUALLY works as the driver won’t “roll-down” properly to all the users connected to it.

SOLUTION:

Disable sharing
As it turns out, the Actual Easy Fix is to disable sharing of the offending printer, click Apply, then update the driver. Once that’s done, enable sharing again. Voilà Tout!
